What is happening
Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone have all announced the planned shutdown of their 3G networks.
When is it happening?
Vodaphone 3G services ended December 2023.
Telstra 3G services will end 30 June 2024.
Optus 3G services will end in September 2024.
Why is this happening?
3G mobile phone services have been available in Australia since the early 2000’s however with the greater demand for data services, technology has improved requiring the rollout of of 4G and 5G networks. As the number of newer 4G/5G devices grows and the number of 3G shrinks the providers are planning to repurpose the radio frequency bands currently used to provide 3G services to improve the coverage, speeds and capacity of their 4G and 5G services.
Will my precision framing systems be impacted?
Typically, there have been 2 main uses for mobile data services in precision farming systems.
